Austrian sports shooter Wolfram Waibel, Jr. (son of Wolfram Waibel, Sr.) participated in four Summer Olympics from Barcelona 1992 to Athens 2004. His greatest year came in 1996 when he won both the silver medal with the small-bore rifle, three positions, and the bronze medal with the air rifle over 10 metres. At Sydney in 2000, Waibel was Austria’s Flagbearer at the opening ceremony. In 1994, Waibel, Jr., won another bronze medal, at the World Championships in the small-bore rifle, three positions event. He was one of Austria’s most successful sports shooters of all-time and was a member of the Austrian team that won the World Championships in 1992, 1998, and 2003.
After his active career, Waibel, Jr., turned to coaching. From 2005-12, he coached the Swiss national rifle team in the Olympic disciplines of 10 metres air rifle and 50 metres small-bore rifle. From 2013, he became the Vorarlberg state coach for shooting sports, and in 2022 took over the national rifle team of Germany.
