Biography

Charles Jaubert was a cavalry career officer, son of the prefect of the department Sarthe. He graduated from the Saint-Cyr Special Military School in 1885.

Jaubert was a skilled marksman with rifles and pistols. His participation in national and international events is confirmed from 1897-1914. He won several prizes at competitions mostly organized by the society Le Pistolet in Paris and the Fusil de Chasse shooting club in Billancourt. Of the latter, Jaubert was one of the founding members in 1898 and was later appointed vice-president. He was a two-times Olympian in 1900 and 1912 in pistol, running target and trap events. His best individual result was a shared seventh place in trap shooting in 1900. In May 1905, the best shooters of the _ Fusil de Chasse_ including Jaubert competed against a Captain John Backers, a shooter from Buffalo Bill’s troupe then on tour in Paris.

An avid hunter, Jaubert was also heavily involved in dog breeding. For instance, he was one of the founding members of the Spaniel Club in 1907 and the Retriever Club in 1911, member of the committees of various breed clubs, frequent judge at dog shows as well as secretary and then president of the Central Society for the Improvement of Dog Breeds in France between 1924 and 1931.

Moreover, Baron Jobert was also a member of the Photo club de Paris and the Polo Club de Bagatelle (Paris).
