Shunpei Hashioka later changed his name to Kozo Okamoto. While attending Hosei University in Tokyo, he competed in boxing in the bantamweight class at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but lost on points in the quarterfinal. In the same year he won the All Japan Championship in this division .
Hashioka later served as vice chairman of the Japan Amateur Boxing Federation and as chairman of the Amateur Boxing Federations of the Kansai, Kinki, and Osaka regions. He died of acute pneumonia and renal failure at the age of 67.
