Biography

Alan Bray´s finest moment as a competitive shooter came at Bisley in 1962 when he won the rapid-fire silhouette pistol title at the British National Championships. As a result, he went to Cairo to compete in that year´s World Championships and finished 38th. The following year Bray was runner-up in the British silhouette championship and then took part in the European Championships in Sweden. Bray was also selected for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and finished 38th (again) in the rapid-fire pistol 25 metres event.

Bray was a Leicester motor mechanic before opening his own gun shop at Hinckley, Leicestershire. Sadly, he was involved in an horrific incident in March 1987 when thieves broke into his shop. They tied him up and covered him in petrol before setting fire to him. Fortunately he escaped, but received severe burns. The three men involved in the attack were given custodial sentences totalling 35 years.
