Biography

Tony Clark appeared in four consecutive Olympic Games between 1960-72. He contested the 25 metres rapid-fire pistol event each time, with a best placed finish of 10th in 1964. Clark’s finest moment came when he won the 25 metres rapid-fire pistol gold medal at the 1966 British Empire & Commonwealth Games at Kingston, Jamaica. He also won the 25 metres centre-fire pistol silver medal at the same Games.

Clark spent a career in the Royal Navy and won a vast collection of shooting trophies from his time in the Service. He won the Royal Navy Revolver Championship several times, including four years in succession between 1957-60. In the latter of those years he was also the British Pistol Champion and was runner-up, by just two points, for the National Small-Bore Rifle Association’s Open Championship. In the Navy, Clark was originally a chief engine-room officer, before later becoming a chief petty officer. Clark died in 2009, the day before his 85th birthday.
