John Gallie served with the RAF, eventually reaching the rank of wing-commander. He competed at Bisley on many occasions, and in 1936 qualified for the final shoot-out for the King’s Hundred. A member of the Old Sarum club, he won the pistol and revolver Tiger Trophy in 1938. After the war, Gallie won the National Small-Bore Rifle Association (NSRA) pistol championship. Five months before his death in 1949, he won the silver badge in the .22 Pistol Aggregate at the Bisley meeting, and also won the Duke of Cambridge Service Rifle Competition. The J. K. Gallie Memorial Cup is contested in his memory by NSRA members.
