Ronald Guy

After completing his education at Reading school, Ronald Guy went into banking before joining the RAF in 1936. Shortly afterwards he was posted to Iraq and during World War II served in North Africa. After the War he was posted to India before eventually retiring from the RAF in 1960 and going into business consultancy. In the 1960s, Guy teamed up with Carnaby Street clothing supremo John Stephen before retiring in 1972. Guy then went to live in Guernsey where he went into local politics, and was involved with the island’s administration.

Guy’s sporting career saw him represent Great Britain at the 1952 Olympics and the 1954 World Championships, in Venezuela. In between, he reached the final of the 1953 King’s Prize at Bisley for the one and only time. After moving to Guernsey, Guy represented the State in the free pistol event at the 1974 Commonwealth Games and was also manager of the Guernsey shooting team. He was manager of the team again four years later. Towards the latter part of his career, he turned to target shooting and represented Guernsey at international level on many occasions.
