A sergeant in the 5th Welsh Regiment, David Lewis first competed at Bisley in 1909 and between 1912-38 reached final of the King’s Prize on 10 occasions. He was a working miner in his native South Wales by occupation.
Lewis’s finest moments at Bisley included winning the Silver Cross in the Grand Aggregate in both 1925 and 1928. He also enjoyed a significant win in 1932, when he captured the Stock Exchange Trophy. Having represented Wales in the National Challenge Trophy, Lewis coached the Welsh team in the 1948 Mackinnon Cup match. During World War II, he served with the 1st Glamorgan Home Guard.
