Edward Skilton served as a private in the City of London Rifle Brigade (LRB) before becoming a civilian and working as a clerk in a property company. As a marksman, he won the LRB Grand Aggregate Challenge Cup in 1906 and, at the annual Bisley Meeting, won the coveted Alexandra Trophy in 1909 and Imperial Tobacco Trophy in 1910. In 1913, Skilton reached the final stage of the King’s Prize, having won a silver medal with the Military Rifle team at the Stockholm Olympics the previous year.
Between 1902-12, Skilton was a member of ten consecutive England teams in the MacKinnon Cup match and between 1895-1910 was selected for the England team in the National Trophy match on eight occasions.
