Biography

As a schoolboy, John Tomlinson competed at Bisley, representing Denstone School, Staffordshire. As the 1958 British free pistol champion, Tomlinson competed in the European Shooting Championships at Milano the following year and was then selected for the 1960 Roma Olympics. He qualified for the final round of the 50 metres free pistol event and was eventually classified 49th. By profession, Tomlinson was a farmer from Clifton Marsh near Preston.
