At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, West German sports shooter Ulrike Holmer won the silver medal in the small-bore rifle three positions event after winning the second-place shoot-off against Wanda Jewell from the Unites States. With the air rifle team, she won the World Championships in 1983. Holmer worked with her parents in their own butchery.
