Rapid-fire pistol sports shooter Werner Beier finished ninth in the 25 metres event at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. Two years later, he won a gold with the West German team, and a silver in the individual event at the Seoul World Championships. At the 1977 Europeans, he won a team gold, and at the 1979 Europeans, an individual gold. He also won several West German national titles. Beier died on his 82nd birthday.
