West German sports shooter Peter Heinz twice finished among the top ten in rifle event at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. He placed fifth with the air rifle over 10 metres, and eighth in the small-bore rifle three positions event. At the World Championships Heinz won three gold medals (1982,1986 and 1990), and also three silver, and one bronze. At the European Championships he won two titles, in 1974 and 1978, and he also won four German national titles.
