Born in Spain, Francisco Romero Portilla represented Guatemala in trap shooting at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. Portilla scored 172 points out of a possible 200, finishing in 30th place out of the 34 shooters who took part in the event. His son Francisco Romero Arribas competed at five Olympic Games, including the Moskva Games, but did not compete against his father as he took part in the skeet shooting. Another son, Juan Romero, also represented Guatemala at multiple Olympic Games with three appearances from 1996 to 2008.
