Imre Ágoston

Imre Ágoston worked for FÉG (Firearm and Gas Equipment Factory) from 1941 where he competed in shooting sports for the company’s team. His career, however, was interrupted for a few years due to World War II. After the war, Ágoston competed for FÉG. Then, from 1952, he competed for Pesterzsébeti Vasas, Lámpagyári Zalka Máté SK and MHL KSK. During his sports career, he achieved 14 national records, five individual and 42 team championships, and competed for the Hungarian national team 64 times.

In 1952 Ágoston participated in the Helsinki Olympics, placing 16th in the small-bore sports rifle, three positions, and 27th in the same weapon, prone position. In 1959, at the European Championships in Milano, he won the European Championship in the small-bore sport rifle prone event as a member of the Hungarian team.

Already in 1959, almost every minute of his free time was spent working with young people and doing a lot of statistical work. Ágoston checked the performance of his team and each competitor individually with graphs. From 1961 to 1962 he worked as a coach at the MHSZ KLK, working with the adult men’s rifle team. From 1967 he coached at the Budapest Honvéd until his death. He was the coach of the men’s rifle team, the head coach until 1980, and then he worked with the youth team, with the adolescent age group. His work was recognized in 1962 with the title of master coach.
