Ferenc Décsey

Ferenc Décsey was six-years-old when he was taken to the shooting range by his father in 1933, and at the age of nine, he won the youth county championship in his first competition. Between 1943 and 1965, Décsey competed for the Salgótarjáni Polgári Lövész Egylet, the Salgótarjáni Lövész Klub, the Salgótarjáni Vasas, the Bp. Honvéd, the Bp. Dózsa and the Hungarian Defence Association Central Shooting Club (MHSZ KLK). During this time, he won the Hungarian championship nine times in the team event. Between 1952 and 1958 Décsey was part of the Hungarian national team 14 times. As a competitor for Bp. Honvéd, he participated in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, where he finished 14th in the free pistol, along with 20th in the free rifle.

Décsey won a bronze medal at the 1955 European Championships in Bucharest, then participated in the 1958 World Championships in Moskva, and the 1959 European Championships in Milano. He was a member of the Hungarian target shooting team preparing for the Melbourne Olympics, but he was unable to travel to the Games. During the 1960 Olympics he developed shoulder problems and was no longer able to undertake the necessary strenuous training. After the end of his sports career, Décsey moved home to Salgótarján, where he coached and participated in smaller competitions.
