Sándor Nagy started shooting sports in 1953 in the colors of Szolnok Dózsa, with his parents also competing there. The family later transferred to the local MÖHOSZ and he won their first national championship in these colors as a youth. He later collected 32 individual and team titles.
From 1960 he moved to Budapest where he first became a member of the MHSZ Budapesti Klub, then from 1962 continued in the MHSZ KLK. From then on he became a member of the Hungarian national team. At the international level he was multiple bronze medalist at the World and European Championships and a two-time Olympian, and finished sixth in an individual World Cup. He continued his career in Újpesti Dózsa from 1977, ending there after being appointed head of the department from 1981.
In 1983 he graduated from the coaching faculty of the College of Physical Education. In 1984 he became a professional department manager in Újpest. The year 1988 brought the division’s success at the Olympics (a bronze medal and a fifth place). From 1991, as a pensioner, he took on the task of handling the department’s weapons and ammunition, and from 2008 he selected, educated, trained and competed riflemen. As a training coach he greatly contributed to the national success of the division’s young riflemen.
