Biography

Elemér Takács competed as a shooter in the colors of NTE. In 1924 he competed in eight different shooting events at the Paris Olympics. As a professional soldier during World War I Takács served first with a battalion in Bosnia, than in the Serbian and the Italian battlefield, and was wounded four times while spending 51 months on the front line.

Between the two world wars Takács served in many parts of the country. During World War II, he had ordered 100s of troops to assault Jewish communities several times before the Arrow Cross. During the reign of the extreme right-wing Arrow Cross Party, he led the armed forces in County Vas. Takács later escaped to the West but, despite that, the court sentenced him to a 15-year prison term based on testimony by several witnesses.
