Harold Frederick

Harold Frederick was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, one of two children born to Harold and Adele Frederick. His parents were both native Lousianans, his father a shipping clerk and mother a homemaker. Frederick married in 1949 at the age of 22 to Lola Christoffer, and resided in Puerto Rico and Venezuela throughout the late 1950s and 1960s with their family of two children.

He later settled at St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands by the early 1970s where he was an avid member of the St. Croix Marksmanship Association, and was one of six members of the Islands’ first shooting delegation to the München Olympic Games in 1972. Prior to the games, there had been some uncertainty regarding a lack of funds required for travel expenses to send majority of the delegation (aside from the sailing team) overseas. Eventually, a hastily arranged fundraiser by the NOC with assistance from both a local businessman as well as a radio personality, in addition to funds provided by the government, would ultimately suffice. He eventually finished 88th in the small-bore, prone event, scoring 580 points. Frederick was once again chosen to participate in the Olympic Games in Montréal four years later, and this time finished in a tie with fellow countryman Peter Hogan for 74th place. Frederick later retired to San Antonio, Texas.
