Born in 1929 Khalif Ayyat worked in the Jordanian armed forces from 1947 until 1984 where he fought in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and the Six-Day War of 1967. Ayyat worked for many years with the cadets of the Military Sports Federation, eventually retiring from the Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel. During this time he won the World Military Shooting Championship in 1979. The following year he participated at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, the first time that Jordan had taken part at the Games. Ayyat was the oldest competitor in the shooting events at the Moskva Olympics where he finished joint-32nd in both the three positions and prone events in the 50 metres small-bore rifle. He later became the first international shooting referee from the country and helped to establish the Royal Jordanian Shooting Club.
