Biography

Kazakhstani rifle shooter Sergey Belyayev won multiple medals at both the Olympics and Asian Games. In 1988 Belyayev won gold at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico City, setting two world records in the process. He had an impressive record at the Asian Games with 10 medals, including five at the 1994 edition in Hiroshima. This included two individual golds in the 50 metres small-bore rifle, an individual silver, and a team silver and bronze. Two years later he won two silvers in the 50 metres small-bore rifle at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, with one in the three positions and the other in the prone event.

Belyayev continued to add to his medal haul at the Asian Games with an individual gold and two team bronzes in 2002, followed by a team gold and an individual bronze in 2006. He also worked as a senior coach with his club Dynamo Almaty and the national shooting team.
