Braathe competed in two Olympic Games and the 1906 Intercalated Games winning silver (1906) and gold (1908) in the free rifle, three positions team event. He drowned in 1940 at the age of 40 in Lake Kolbotntjernet, less than one year after he married his wife Elise, after suffering a heart attack while rowing on the lake.
