Biography

Ragnvald Maseng was trained as a gunsmith. At the age of just 20 he competed in military and small-bore rifle events at the 1912 Summer Olympics. In 1916, he became the shooting king at the National Shooting Festival in Egersund. He drowned trying to cross the river Bjoreio when he was only 28-years-old. On a trip across the Hardanger plain, a group of three men tried to take a shortcut wading across the river. The one who went in first was Ragnvald Maseng. He was taken by the current, without his comrades being able to help him. The accident happened approximately 6 kilometres upstream of the village of Eidfjord.
