Per-Olof Arvidsson started his military career as a sergeant in the Svea Artillery Regiment 91 and was promoted to “styckjunkare“ (ensign) in 1904. In the same year he married his wife Amanda Olivia, who survived him by more than 25 years. He later became departmental secretary of the Royal Army Administration and for the military command on the island of Gotland. Arvidsson was a two-time Olympian in rifle and running target event, winning silver in 1908 in the free rifle team event, and gold in 1912 in the running target, single shot team event.
