Biography

Tönnes Björkman competed in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics in free rifle and military rifle shooting, winning bronze in the military rifle team event. One year later he enjoyed his greatest success by becoming the World Champion in the military rifle shooting, kneeling position in Camp Perry, USA. During this time he lived in Stockholm and worked as a civil engineer. In 1916 he proposed to hold an annual tournament between club teams, which was implemented five years later as “Riksskölden”. In the 1920s he represented a club from Varberg in the Halland province on regional level. Björkman also wrote papers about the skills and the history of shooting.
