Gustaf Stiernspetz was the son of a major and bank director in Stockholm. After graduation Gustaf joined the Svea Life Guards as a volunteer in 1908. Two years later he received an officer’s degree and was promoted to lieutenant of his regiment. Stiernspetz completed pilot training and served as an aviator and reconnaissance pilot. Later he was discharged with permission to join the reserve of his regiment as a lieutenant. He was appointed Knight of the Order of the White Rose of Finland in 1920.
In 1918 he lived on a property in Skåne and married Sigrid Gunhilda (née Göransson). The couple had two sons and two daughters and accommodated two stepchildren. The family then emigrated to Argentina where Stiernspetz worked as a businessman in the leather industry. For his return to Sweden in 1928, he bought a farm near Katrineholm but lived in Malmö and worked as a sales manager for a packaging manufacturer. In 1931 Stiernspetz was incapacitated and lived in Katrineholm in the 1940s. He eventually died in Danderyd near Stockholm.
