Biography

In the 1960s and 1970s Ladislav Falta was one of the best rapid-fire pistol shooters in Czechoslovakia. Falta won three gold medals at the European championships, with two in 1969 and a third in 1971, in addition to winning individual and team gold at the World championships in 1970. In 1964 he made his first of three appearances at the Olympics, finishing ninth in the 25 metres rapid-pistol event at the Tokyo Games. Four years later he came tenth in the same event at the Mexico City Olympics. At the 1972 München Games Falta had his best performance at the Olympics when he won silver, finishing just one point behind Józef Zapędzki of Poland.
