Slovak sports shooter Ondrej Šima competed for Czechoslovakia at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Šima finished in 18th place in the 300 metre free rifle, three positions event, scoring 1,121 points out of a possible 1,200. After a tight first round competing in the prone position, he was only seven points behind the leader and eventual silver medallists Valentin Kornev. He then slipped down the rankings, however, in the kneeling and standing positions. In 2007 Šima was awarded with a bronze ring by the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee.
