Biography

Ukrainian Boris Melnik was on the Soviet national team from 1964-86. He won the Olympic free rifle, three positions silver in 1972, two World titles (team free rifle, kneeling and team standard rifle 3x20 shots, both in 1970) and nine European titles (individual and team military rifle, 3-positions in 1969; team standard rifle 3x20 shots in 1981; team small-bore rifle, 3-positions, kneeling and standing in 1969; individual air rifle in 1972; and team air rifle in 1972-73).

Outside of sport, Melnik was a career military man, who retired from the force in a rank of major after the fall of Soviet Union. He also worked as shooting coach and, after the fall of Soviet Union, was head coach of the Ukrainian national rifle team. Melnik emigrated to Israel at the start of the 2000s.
