Margaret Gibson won a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Coming into the Olympics, Gibson had swum on two Australian teams that set world records in that event. She had learned to swim at Glenelg Beach with her family. Gibson was a member of the South Australian swim team from 1953-58 and won multiple South Australian titles in every stroke during that time.
