Ryan Mitchell was a breaststroker who swam at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, making the final of the 200 breaststroke in 2000 and winning a silver medal that year in the medley relay. Mitchell trained at the South Australian Sports Institute for eight years. He was on the Australian national team for seven years and competed at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, where he won a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke. At the 1995 Short-Course Worlds Mitchell won two silver medals, in the 200 breast and the medley relay, and repeated that finish in the 200 in 1999. A native of Port Augusta, in December 2001 the Port Augusta Swimming Pool became part of the Ryan Mitchell Swim Centre to honor their town’s first Olympian.
