Vera Lischka was an Austrian breaststroke swimmer participating in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. Sensationally, she placed fifth over 100 metres. At European Short Course Championships she won the gold medal over 50 metres in 1996, two silver medals over 100 metres in 1996 and 50 metres in 1998, and a bronze medal over 50 metres in 2001. In total, she won 30 national titles.
Lischka later became a TV journalist and press reporter. With the left-winged party SPÖ, she was also a member of the Landtag of Upper Austria for several years until 2009.
