Biography

After the end of World War II competitive swimmer Walter Bardgett represented Bermuda at two Olympic Games. Bardgett swam in the 400 metres freestyle at the 1948 London Olympics, but finished last in his heat and was eliminated. He was also part of the quartet that competed in the 4 × 200 metres freestyle relay. The team originally finished sixth in their heat, but were disqualified after their third swimmer, Robert Cook, started too soon. Four years later Bardgett swam in the 100, 400, and 1,500 metres freestyle at the Helsinki Olympics, with a best result of 35th in the latter.
