Biography

Aram Boghossian took up basketball and swimming at the age of six, but it was the latter sport that would hold his interest. He first represented Brazil at the Olympics in 1948, where he was joint-14th (with Ron Stedman of Great Britain) in the 100 metres freestyle and eighth in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay alongside Sérgio Rodrígues, Willy Otto Jordan, and Rolf Kestener. Two years later, however, he had his greatest international success when he took silver in the relay at the inaugural 1951 Pan American Games, with Ricardo Esberard, João Gonçalves Filho, and Tetsuo Okamoto.

Boghossian and Gonçalves also competed in this event at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, alongside Sylvio dos Santos and Haroldo Lara, but finished 15th. Individually in Helsinki, Boghossian was joint-42nd in the 100 metres freestyle. He graduated with a degree in engineering and returned to swimming at the masters’ level at the age of 60, continuing to compete into his 70s.
