Diego Martel swam the 4x100 relay at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. He swam for the Real Club Náutico de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He earned 18 international caps with the Spanish national team, also competing at the 1967 Mediterranean Games. Martel studied medicine and became a neurosurgeon on Tenerife.
