Biography

Gérard Coignot was a French competitive swimmer who represented Troyes. Active during the 1950s Coignot was a nine-time runner-up at the French championships in the backstroke. At the 1955 Mediterranean Games in Barcelona he won silver in the 100 metres, finishing second to compatriot Gilbert Bozon. Coignot’s consistent performances earned him a place on the French Olympic team for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he finished 17th in the 100 metres event.
