Biography

Georges Paulus was a backstroke specialist who was French Champion at 100 and 300 metres. He also set a French 100 m freestyle record in 1919. Paulus came from a family of top swimmers, as his father attempted to swim the English Channel, but was not successful, and his brother, René, was runner-up French Championships in the mile and hour events. René was killed from war wounds in World War I. Georges Paulus later became director of a new club, Canards du Lutèce, shortly before he was killed in an automobile accident in 1937.
