At the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games at Kingston, Jamaica, Judy Gegan won the 4x110 yards medley relay gold medal with Diane Harris, Linda Ludgrove, and Pauline Sillett. In the process, they broke the two-year-old world record with a new time of 4:40.6. Gegan also won silver in the individual 110 yards butterfly. Shortly after the Kingston Games, the same quartet won the 4x100 metres medley relay bronze medal at the Utrecht European Championships in a British record time.
Despite being a member of the Beckenham Ladies club that won the ASA national medley relay title four years in succession 1964-67, Gegan never won a senior individual ASA title despite five podium finishes in six years between 1962-67. Gegan retired from competitive swimming after the 1967 national championships and became a professional swimming coach. In 1969 she married fellow international swimmier, and later journalist, Andrew Wilson.
