Goldup Davies

A member of both the Otter and Lewisham Swimming Clubs, Goldup Davies was a champion both before and after World War II. He was the Southern Counties 200 yards breaststroke champion in 1933-34 and 1936, and was the ASA champion in 1937 and 1939. He also won two gold medals at the 1938 British Empire Games in Sydney. He won the individual 220 y breaststroke gold, and the 3 x 100 y medley relay title with Freddie Dove and Micky Taylor. Davies also reached the final of the individual 200 metres at the European Championships at Wembley that year.

After World War II, Davies gained Olympic selection, after finishing third in the ASA Championships. He was runner-up in the ASA 200 breaststroke in 1950 and was, in between, in 1949, the Southern Counties champion.
