Having appeared in the 1924 and 1928 Olympics without collecting a medal, Sheffield dental technician Reggie Flint won a bronze medal in the 200 yards breaststroke at the inaugural British Empire Games in Hamilton, Canada in 1930. He attempted to appear in his third Olympics in 1932, but lost the Southern Olympic trial at Paddington after finishing second to Stanley Bell. In addition to winning Yorkshire breaststroke titles, Flint was the ASA 200 yards champion four times, in 1924-25 and 1928-29. He did not defend his title in 1930 but had three other podium finishes, in 1926 and 1927 (both second) and 1931 (third). Later in his career he took up backstroke swimming and added another Yorkshire title in that discipline to his already impressive collection.
