The runner-up in the springboard event at the trials for the 1924 Olympic, Gregory Matveieff went to Paris and just failed to qualify for the springboard final after finishing fourth. He was the 1932 Amateur Diving Association (ADA) High Fancy Diving Champion but it was as an administrator after his competitive days that he became better known. He was a former president of the Southern Counties Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), and honorary treasurer of the National ASA and, the year before his death, was its president. He was also an Olympic swimming judge. Although he died in Bristol, Matveieff lived in London at the time of his death, and was the Mayor of Marylebone in 1960/61.
