Angela Franke was an East German freestyle and medley swimmer who was eliminated in the heats of the 400 m individual medley at the 1972 München Olympics. At the 1973 Belgrade Worlds she claimed a gold medal with the 4x100 freestyle relay and a silver medal in the 400 IM. At the 1975 World Championships she added a bronze medal in the 200 IM. At the 1974 Wien (Vienna) Europeans she won two gold medals with the 4x100 freestyle relay and in the 400 m freestyle. She also claimed a silver medal in the 100 m freestyle.
Franke became a graduate sports and history teacher. After re-unification she became head of a Magdeburg-situated school for children and youths. She regularly competed in master swimming events and set several senior world records.
