Breaststroke swimmer Bärbel Grimmer from Rostock finished sixth in the 200 metre event at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. She also competed in the 4x100 medley relay that was disqualified in the final. From 1963-65 Grimmer was East German 100 breaststroke champion, and in 1963-66 also won the 200 breaststroke.
