East German breaststroke swimmer Karla Linke reached both finals in the 100 and 200 at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, finishing eighth in the 100 and fifth in the 200 metres. Two years earlier she had won the European Championships in the 200 metres, setting world records in the heats and the final. At the 1975 Cali Worlds she earned a silver in the 400 individual medley and a bronze in the 200 breaststroke. In 1975 and 1976 she also won the East German nationals in the 200.
After retiring and German re-unification, Linke lived in Sweden for several years and then worked with the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce at Dresden. She later worked with the Swedish Embassy in Berlin.
