Backstroke swimmer Petra Riedel won the bronze medal at the 1980 Moskva Summer Games in the 100 metres, which was dominated by East German swimmers. The gold medal went to Rica Reinisch and the silver to Ina Kleber. Riedel retired after the 1981 season, when she won a bronze medal at the East German nationals.
