Kathrin Zimmermann, daughter of Heidi Eisenschmidt, was an East German backstroke swimmer who won the 200 metres silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. At World Championships, she won a complete set of medals in 1986. At European Championships, Zimmermann won four silver medals and one bronze.
In 1985 and 1987 Zimmermann won the East German 100 metres national title, and in 1986 she was the 200 metres champion. By profession, Zimmermann was a women’s tailor.
