Biography

Udo Poser was a member of the East German 4x100 freestyle relay, finishing fifth at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. He swam for ASK Vorwärts Rostock and was teamed nationally with Frank Wiegand, Horst-Günter Gregor and Lothar Gericke. Individually he was penciled in for the 200 freestyle but did not start. Four years later in München Poser swam the heats over 200 and 400 freestyle but failed to make either final. He also swam the heats with the 4x100 freestyle but was replaced in the final, with the team bringing home a bronze medal. With the 4x200 freestyle relay he finished sixth.

At the European Championships Poser won three gold, two silver and three bronze medals between 1966 and 1970. From 1967-72 he won six national titles in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyles, and from 1969-71 also six titles in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Poser won 23 East German titles, including relays. After the München Games he retired and worked as a swimming coach in Rostock.
