Gabriele Askamp was a West German breaststroke swimmer who participated in the 1976 Montréal Olympics. She came in fifth in the 100 metres, but was eliminated in the 200 heats. She finished sixth in the 100 at the 1975 World Championships. Askamp won three West German national titles, at 100 metres in 1975-76, and 200 in 1976.
Askamp trained as a medical-technical assistant. In 2001 she suffered a stroke and became paralyzed on one side. Since then she has been dependent on a wheelchair.
