East German diver Brita Baldus qualified for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics but could not participate due to the Soviet-led boycott of the Eastern countries. At Seoul in 1988 she finished seventh in the springboard event but improved to take the bronze at Barcelona in 1992.
In 1991, Baldus added another bronze at the World Championships. She also won three gold, two silvers and two bronzes at European Championships. Nationally, she captured six East German titles in 1981, 1983-85, and 1987-88. In 1992, she won her only German national title after re-unification. In 1993, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. By profession, Baldus became a graduated sports teacher and worked with the AOK Health Center Leipzig.
