German swimmer Ruth Halbsguth won the silver medal with the 4x100m freestyle relay team at the 1934 European Championships. Two years later she enjoyed the same success at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with team-mates with Leni Lohmar, Inge Schmitz and Gisela Jacob-Arendt. Between 1933-38 Halbsguth was the German 400m freestyle champion six years in a row.
